Andrew Neisler is a Georgia-raised, New York-based theatre artist and director with a passion for collaboration, comedy, and the natural world. His work is joy-forward, queer-affirming, sharp, silly, soft, and wild. Recent directing credits include the new hit Off-Broadoway mentalism show Mindplay, the immersive nightclub spectacle Another Rose for Virgin Voyages, the critically acclaimed new musical Folk Wandering which he also co-authored with Jaclyn Backhaus and nine composers, the world premiere of Cesar Alvarez's The Elementary Spacetime Show at the Philadelphia FringeArts Curated Series, Andrew Farmer’s ghost play The Gray Man, downtown and Off-Broadway critical darling Clown Bar, and Drama Desk nominated Charlatan at Ars Nova. Recent producing credits at Ars Nova, where he currently serves as an Associate Artistic Director include Heather Christian’s Oratorio for Living Things, Hound Dog, (pray) (Lortel Award for Outstanding Musical), Travels, and The Beastiary. He has developed new plays and musicals in residencies and commissions with Ars Nova, The Public Theater, New York Theatre Workshop, Playwrights Horizons, HERE Arts, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Williamstown Theatre Festival, among others. He has served as a adjunct teaching artist in Directing programs at New York University, University of the Arts, Williams College, and The New School. Andrew is a co-Founder and Creative Director of the non-profit arts incubation company Fresh Ground Pepper where he runs an annual retreat program for artists getting new ideas off the ground and collaborating with the more than human world (www.fgpnyc.com). He is an alumnus of the Ars Nova Directors' Troupe, the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab and the Civilians' R&D Group. And he was the 2014 Director-in-Residence at Ars Nova, where he is currently serving as the Associate Artistic Director (www.arsnovanyc.com). He holds a BFA from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
